Developing Specifications

Construction specifications, also known, as specs, detail the work and workmanship needed to complete a construction project. And there’s no way to get around them. As required documents during the design phase, they’re part of a formal process. According to the Dictionary of Architecture & Construction a specification is, “a written document describing in detail the scope of work, materials to be used, methods of installation, and quality of workmanship for a parcel of work to be placed under contract; usually utilized in conjunction with working (contract) drawings in building construction.”
Furthermore, according to The Construction Specifier, “specification sections are customized in order to accurately describe the intended materials, and then these sections are used by the team to identify the type of products that should be used onsite.”

The Design Design Process

When an owner, owner’s agent or corporate representative approaches us about a prospective building design, there are four well-defined phases of the project. Each involves a team approach and a finely-tuned methodology.
  • 1
It starts with an idea — Every project starts with the client’s and designer’s ideas. At this stage, the we help identify goals for the project, sets priorities and develops concept sketches.
  • 2
Back to the drawing board — Next, the team create an outline of the concept’s performance goals and aesthetic elements, integrating the client’s ideas into architectural drawings and artistic renderings. These drawings go back and forth, as the client is encouraged to red-line the drawings and the team fine-tunes the concept.
  • 3
Preliminary feasibility — Throughout this phase, the team’s engineering and architectural expertise comes into play. Here, solid knowledge derived from years of practical experience helps determine the feasibility of the sketch stage design.
  • 4
Architectural programming is the thorough and systematic evaluation of the interrelated values, goals, facts, and needs of a client’s family and the surrounding community. A well-conceived program leads to high-quality design.
  • 5
Programming is when you’ll meet with our architect to discuss all of your needs and desires for your building. During programming, our architect will gather information on your building site. At this time, the owner and architect will begin to form a cohesive relationship and a shared concept for the final building.
  • 6
Here the scope, features, purpose, and functionality of building is defined. Together with our architect, we develop and refine a “vision” for the project. Our architect leads you through a “programming” exercise to help you explore the needs of those who will live, work .
  • 7
Architect will be asked to consider what owner want both aesthetically and functionally of building. What are the indoor and outdoor space requirements or the likely movements and interactions of those who will be living and visiting building The answers to these and other questions will provide insight into uses and living conditions; insights our architect will use to design a building created specifically for clients and their lifestyle.
Once the requirements of the project are determined via the programming process, the design phase begins. Our architect gives shape to your vision through drawings.
